Update

Friday was Seth's first pediatrician appointment. The good news is that he grew almost 2 inches in length and is nice and strong...he can lift his head pretty well! Everything is great except his weight. He has not gained any weight since his home check-up on Sept. 6. He is still 5lbs. 15oz. (10oz. below his birth weight). The Dr. said that she likes to see babies be back at their birth weight by this appointment. She said for me not to worry (ha!) because this is fairly common with preterm babies.

So, the new plan is to give him 1-2oz. of pumped milk at each feeding in addition to what he gets on his own. This has been challenging. It's not only more time-consuming, I'm finding out that I don't produce much milk. One ounce is about all the extra I can give.

We went up for prayer this morning at church and I realized once again there is nothing more I can do. I have to rely on Jesus to give Seth what he needs, and to help me supply more as well.

Please pray that he shows a weight gain at his next appointment on Sept. 24.

well don't feel guilty if you have to supplement with formula.

I will pray and believe for Seth's weight gain.

God is our sufficiency and he does provide for us in all things.

Big Hugs!

Drink lots of water which I am sure you are but I know lots of liquids help!
You have the right mind set! Leaning on Jesus is The most important and he WILL help you get through this!
I will be praying!

I have no experience here, as you know, but they did mention at the lactation class I took to try different positions for nursing, sometimes babies eat more if they are in a different position. Did they tell you anything like that?
They also said that to increase your supply try pumping a little extra and 'stockpiling' it whenever you can. The classes were pretty interesting, but like I said, I have no 'field experience' ;) So you may already know or have tried this stuff. Just thought I'd mention it.

Wow, I found your blog through Alex and Rachel. It has been such a long time. My wife Faith is practically a lactation expert. It took 9 weeks to get our son to nurse right. We did the pump and bottle as well. My advice is don't give up. Thats free food and the best stuff too. I hope to keep up with you now that I found the blog. You can find my whole family through www.churchpunk.com - Faith and I each have a blog and so does the kids.
